Letter: Roosevelt excelled under English Standard system
A letter to the editor notes that Roosevelt High School's class of 1960 achieved 32 National Merit Semifinalists. This total exceeds the current number of semifinalists from public schools listed in a recent report. The author highlights the school's performance under the former English Standard system.
A recent article in the paper brought to mind memories of my 1960 class at Roosevelt High School (“National Merit Scholarship announces semifinalists from Hawaii high schools,” Star-Advertiser, Sept. 9). If memory serves me right, that class garnered 32 National Merit Semifinalists, which is more than all the public schools listed in the article.
