Letter: Be cautious, but keep AI development moving
A letter to the editor argues that while Senator Bernie Sanders' concerns about AI are valid, development should continue with a focus on safety improvements rather than halting progress.
U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders wants Washington to hit the brakes on advanced artificial intelligence, warning of lost jobs and potentially catastrophic consequences. His concerns deserve debate. However, imagine if government had stopped development of the automobile because the Model T lacked seat belts, airbags or today’s safety technology. We developed automobiles — and improved safety along the way.
