Cortez Masto sponsors bipartisan bill in Senate helping sexual assault survivors keep full settlements
Senator Catherine Cortez Masto is sponsoring the bipartisan Survivor Justice Tax Prevention Act, which aims to exclude sexual assault settlements from taxable income. The legislation would exempt compensatory damages received for sexual acts or contact from taxation, while keeping punitive damages taxable. A similar version of the bill has already passed the House of Representatives.
