After legal defeat, Oregon removes support for gender identities from foster parenting requirements
Oregon's Department of Human Services removed requirements for foster parents to support gender identities following a court ruling. The judgment prohibited the state from requiring plaintiff Jessica Bates to express views inconsistent with her religious beliefs. This policy change follows a successful legal challenge against the state's foster parenting regulations.
In a final judgment issued last week, Oregon DHS was prohibited from making plaintiff Jessica Bates express views "inconsistent with her religious beliefs."
