Strategists Say Ueda’s Less-Hawkish Comments Weighed on Yen
The yen extended losses as Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda’s comments at a press conference disappointed investors who were looking for a more hawkish tone, strategists said. The BOJ needed to avoid letting prices deviate above target and harming the economy, Ueda said, speaking after the central bank raised its benchmark interest rate by a quarter percentage point to 1.25% in a split vote.
