House unanimously votes to eliminate 1-cent coin permanently
The U.S. House of Representatives unanimously passed the Common Cents Act to permanently end the minting of the one-cent coin. The legislation establishes a system for cash transactions to be rounded to the nearest nickel. This measure effectively phases out the penny from the national currency system.
