New bill aims to help wrongfully-detained Americans upon return to U.S.
Marine veteran Paul Whelan and Representative Haley Stevens introduced legislation to support wrongfully detained Americans returning to the U.S. The bill aims to provide resources for individuals transitioning back to domestic life after release from overseas detention. Whelan was previously held in Russia for over five years.
Two years after Russia released Paul Whelan from a wrongful detention that lasted over five years, the Marine veteran is working with Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens of Michigan to try to make life easier for people like him upon their return to the U.S. Whelan and Stevens join "The Takeout" to unpack the proposed legislation.
