Tourism officials hope nonstop flights will bring more Japanese visitors to Maui
Supporters say the plan is the ideal way to boost tourism given Japanese tourists' reputation for respect, deep love of Hawaiian culture and tendency to spend big in the islands.

The Maui Police Department, in collaboration with the Keiki Injury Prevention Coalition, the Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, will host a child safety seat inspection event within the Kīhei Police Station parking lot on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

In the opinion, the court upheld Hawaiʻi's requirements establishing a 30-day period to use a permit to acquire a handgun and requiring certain newly acquired firearms to be brought to a police station for inspection.
